21 Day Devotional – 2023

Day 1 – Monday, January 9

2023 is here… now what? Will it be more of the same or should we expect different? Although life can seem routine at times, life with Jesus should never be.

You see, God spoke through a man called Isaiah to deliver this message to His people:

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” –Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV

As you journey into 2023 God wants you to understand that He is always at the “cutting edge” of your life as He works in you, through you, and around you. As the author of your faith story, He continues to unfold His plan and purpose for your life. Like pieces to a puzzle, His Masterpiece is all coming together and will be clearer to you than ever before.

As you press into Him at the start of this new year, pray and ask the Lord to give you a glimpse of what He is up to in your life. Allow Him an opportunity to show you the way He is making in your wilderness and the life that will spring forth in your dry places this new year.

Day 2 – Tuesday, January 10

Philippians 3:12-14 (NIV)
12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for whi
ch Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Today's Thought:

Even the great Apostle Paul realized that he hadn’t arrived at perfection, and you won’t either, but he was determined to press forward to better. Press On!

Day 3 – Wednesday, January 11

James 1:5 (NIV)

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

Today's Thought:

God’s wisdom is divine and will enable you to see what He sees. Take time to ask Him for some wisdom and receive a heavenly perspective on your situation.

Day 4 – Thursday, January 12

Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)

Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.”

Today's Thought:

God sees things differently. You may see small, but God sees big. You see a seed; He already sees an orchard. You see a baby step; He sees a grand finish!

Day 5 – Friday, January 13

Lamentations 3:22-23 (NLT)

22 The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. 23 Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.

Today's Thought:

No matter how bad yesterday may have felt or been, today is a brand new day. Take a few moments to reflect on the mercy and faithfulness of God in your life and create a reminder list for yourself.

Day 6 – Saturday, January 14

Romans 1:16-17 (NLT)

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and for the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

Today's Thought:

You are on a journey with God that began in faith and continues to move towards greater faith… And as He gives you a faith upgrade in 2023, He is also revealing what He gave you from the beginning—His Righteousness.

Day 7 – Sunday, January 15

Psalm 118:24 (NKJV)

This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Today's Thought:

God made this day, and you are part of it.  Purpose this very moment to rejoice and be glad no matter how you currently feel.  It will change the way you experience today.

Day 8 – Monday, January 16

When the Lord is doing a new thing in our lives one of the greatest challenges is to let go of the old thing.  It’s like that old pair of jeans that are faded and ripped, but hard to get rid of.  The reason being is because we have become so comfortable with them that we can’t imagine being without them.

It’s the same way in this life of faith.  We can become comfortable and settle with things, people, mindsets, and behaviors that limit what the Lord is desiring to do in our lives.

Consider Abram who in Genesis 12 was asked by God to leave his family, friends, and environment so the Lord could show him what He had waiting for him.  In other words, God was asking Him to leave the negative influences in his life and instead pursue God and the tremendous blessings that were awaiting him.

As you are determined to go further with God in this new season of 2023, ask Him to reveal to you the negative influences that are in your life that you need to let go of.

Day 9 – Tuesday, January 17

Hebrews 5:8-9 (NLT)

Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him.

Today's Thought:

Although it hurts sometimes, obedience to the Father’s will is the key to fulfilling your destiny.

Day 10 – Wednesday, January 18

Isaiah 55:8-11 (NLT)

8 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.

9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

10 “The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth.  They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry.
11 It is the same with my word.  I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.

Today's Thought:

God loves us too much to leave us where He found us.  He sends His word to give us an “Upgrade”.

Day 11 – Thursday, January 19

1 Corinthians 13:11 (NLT)

When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things.

Today's Thought:

It’s okay to act childish when you are a child, but God never intended for you to be a child forever.

Day 12 – Friday, January 20

Hebrews 12:1-2 (NLT)

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

Today's Thought:

As you run this marathon called life, remember you are not running against anyone else.  Follow the Holy Spirit and He will help you set a good pace for your race and finish strong.

Day 13 – Saturday, January 21

Titus 3:3-5 (NLT)

3 Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other. 4 But—When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, 5 he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.

Today's Thought:

With this new life you have received, God has broken the power of the devil over you.  You no longer are to be enslaved to the lusts and pleasures of this world.  Ask the Holy Spirit to set you free from whatever is holding you.

Day 14 – Sunday, January 22

1 Peter 5:6-7 (NKJV)

6 Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Today's Thought:

Don’t resist what God is doing in your life but submit to it.  Lean on Him.  Like a good physical therapist, He knows exactly what you need.

Day 15 – Monday January 23

Have you ever had an area in your life that appeared to be dead?  Where there was no hope and quite frankly it was too painful even to think about ie: your finances, a relationship, health condition, or even a desire/dream that has been dormant? Consider what our amazing God did with Ezekiel, in chapter 37 of his account with God. He testified that God took him to a cemetery filled with dry bones and asked him, “Can these bones live again?”

There are times in your walk with Jesus that He will take you to that place where you have given up on and ask you a question, not because He doesn’t know the answer, but because He desires to ignite your faith.

Ezekiel’s response was genuine and filled with wisdom.  He stated, “you alone know the answer to that.” (Ezekiel 37:3) Then God instructed him to speak to the bones and declare the word of the Lord to them, “Live again!”

You can partner with God right now by inviting Him to take you to those dead areas of your life and declaring what He has to say over that matter.  As you speak His word over them watch them be infused with the life of God in 2023.

Day 16 – Tuesday, January 24

Romans 4:17-18 (NKJV)

17 —God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; 18 who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.”

Today's Thought:

God called Abraham “the father of many nations when he was old and had no children”.  What is God saying about you?

Day 17 – Wednesday, January 25

Matthew 9:21-23 (NLT)

21 for she thought, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.” 22 Jesus turned around, and when he saw her, he said, “Daughter, be encouraged! Your faith has made you well.” And the woman was healed at that moment.

Today's Thought:

Allow your trust and belief in God to make you whole today.

Day 18 – Thursday, January 26

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV)

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Today's Thought:

Seek God with all your heart and know there is a reward awaiting you.

Day 19 – Friday, January 27

Luke 4:18-19 (NKJV)

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Today's Thought:

The Good News of the Gospel is that Jesus is the answer to all your needs.

Day 20 – Saturday, January 28

1 Kings 18:41-44 (NKJV)

41 Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.” 42 So Ahab went up to eat and drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; then he bowed down on the ground, and put his face between his knees, 43 and said to his servant, “Go up now, look toward the sea.” So he went up and looked, and said, “There is nothing.” And seven times he said, “Go again.” 44 Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said, “There is a cloud, as small as a man’s hand, rising out of the sea!” So he said, “Go up, say to Ahab, Prepare your chariot, and go down before the rain stops you.’ ”

Today's Thought:

Don’t rely on what you see, but what you’ve already heard from God.

Day 21 – Sunday, January 29

2 Corinthians 1:20 (NKJV)

For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.

Today's Thought:

Take time to familiarize yourself with what God has already made available to you through Jesus.
